Meanwhile, hope ever springing, I started what will probably be yet another unpublishable novel, a Tolstoyan epic set in central Europe 1786-1848 about the conflict between aristocratic conservatives and liberal nationalists. I've always been interested in cultural conflicts and how and why they make people crazy. Good thing we're past all that nowadays!

Bad News
For reasons I won't go into here, the book I just finished will not be published by Henry Holt. We are looking to place it in some other house, but it will take some time. If anyone is reading this and was interested in reading another book by me, I'm afraid you're going to have to wait a while.

Sorry to hear your next book won’t be out in the near future. That is bad news! I am looking forward to it, and to the next one as well. I hope it finds a publisher soon.
By the way, just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your class in Sedona in February. It was fantastic to hear you turn all the very different story ideas from everyone in the class into workable thriller plots, and I hope to be reading these books at some point in the future. The two days were just loaded with useful information, so thank you.
